CHAIRS AND DESKS (mixed media)
Chairs and desks is a video-installation built up in the basement of the Fine Art Academy of Brera.
Inside a cubby-hole almost fully filled by chairs, desks and PC turned over and jammed among each other, a Tv, grafted between this net of metal and wood, screens a dvd from Ahmadinejad's official campaign.
On the other side, a projection shows BBC Persian dealing with Michael Jackson's death, which happened at the same time of the Iranian velvet revolution following the 2009 Iranian presidential election.
As in a sort of TV zapping between satellite TV channels illegally broadcasted in Iran, MJ's death is alternated by erotic images of Persian beauties covering their faces with the hijab while showing at the same time their body fully naked.
By creating this overfilled space of school chairs and desks, punctuated by prosumer cameras screening the violence of the electoral aftermath, the installation wants to evocate both the riots and the importance of the students movement in the Iranian politics.
Moreover, it would like to open a reflection about the presence of the Western culture inside the Islamic Republic, questioning the role of the young Iranian population in pushing forward this process, particularly in relation to the impact of the net inside the young Iranian culture.
